Oskaloosa Virtual Academy Program
The Oskaloosa Virtual Academy is an Oskaloosa school program using an innovative educational model to provide your child with the best virtual education possible. As a program for Oskaloosa students in grades 7-12, our virtual education approach allows us to meet your child's needs in a virtual environment.
The Oskaloosa Virtual Academy Program provides students with non-traditional educational opportunities as they pursue a high-quality education and achieve their academic goals. This allows students and families flexibility in how they work toward mastering learning that best fits their unique needs. The Oskaloosa Virtual Academy Program also believes in connection to community and school. This is why the program consists of two parts.
Connection to the Osky Pride Community through advisory/community virtual meetings with an assigned virtual learning coordinator and similar age/grade-level peers. This provides socialization, connection, social emotional learning activities, lessons in how to be successful in an online environment, and information about school activities. Students are eligible to join clubs, play sports, and participate in a variety of activities offered in Oskaloosa Community Schools or the resident district.
High-quality academic learning through customized Edmentum Courseware courses to ensure alignment to prioritized Iowa Core Standards and to align to a trimester time frame. Each student is assigned an Oskaloosa School District highly-qualified teacher who will offer personalized assistance and feedback.
In order for students to be successful in a virtual learning environment the school, students, and families must work together. Students must be self-motivated and self-disciplined. Families must be willing and able to participate in the day-to-day learning process to assist in their student’s success. Two-way communication must occur to guide the student to success each trimester in each subject-area and course.
Updates
Beginning with the 2023-2024 school year, there will be admission requirements to attend the OVA Program. Students who are new to the OVA Program will have to have attained a GPA of 2.5 or above and missed less than 10% during the previous year in order to be considered for acceptance into our virtual program.
Student attendance and progress will also be checked regularly throughout the trimester. Students who have earned below a 1.5 GPA OR have missed more than 20% of the trimester will not be allowed to continue attending the OVA Program the following trimester.
Students will only be allowed to enter or leave the OVA Program at the beginning and end of each trimester, unless there are extenuating circumstances.
If you have questions about the Oskaloosa Virtual Academy, email Lisa Brown, District Registrar, at 641-673-8345 or about the enrollment process.
"I have found that I love the way virtual schooling is going for my two kids. Anytime we have a question, the teacher is always quick to help. I am looking forward to continuing the virtual learning process; it is a learning experience for the parents too."
