Kids picking out books at the book fair.

Grade-level Spotlight: On October 9th and 10th, 4th grade students had the opportunity to go on an outdoor learning experience known as “School of the Wild”! Students rotated between groups where they learned skills such as how to fish, water collecting, how to build a shelter, and camping necessities/survival. They also dug for fossils, went hiking, and learned about atlatls (a tool used by indigenous people when hunting), all of which tied to our reading, math, science, and social studies prioritized standards.

Library/PTO: This year has started off strong in the OES library! Our younger kids have been finding their groove, getting more independent in finding right fit books and really blossoming into readers. Our older students have been studying how to utilize the card catalog to find information on topics they are interested in.

So far, by far, the highlight of the year has been the arrival of the Scholastic Book Fair! Our OES PTO generously donates enough money to let every single student come to the book fair and pick out one new book. That’s an almost $7,000 donation! They believe every student deserves to experience the magic of the book fair and the power of reading. Check out these adorable pictures of students getting to choose their book donated by the PTO.
