ISASP testing is happening this week at OMS! Here are a few reminders to help your student feel prepared and supported:
📌 Please ensure your student arrives at school by 8:10 a.m. so testing can begin promptly. Students who arrive late may need to complete make-up testing later in the day, which could result in missed class time.
📌 Make sure your student’s Chromebook is fully charged at home and ready to go each morning.
📌 Encourage your student to get a good night’s rest and eat a healthy breakfast. Our food service team continues to offer nutritious breakfast options each morning, and we’ll also have snacks and water available during testing.
📌 Remind your student to take their time and do their best. A positive attitude can go a long way!
Let’s have a great testing week!

Shoutout to OMS student Gibson for going above and beyond! 🎉
An elementary parent reached out to our office to share how Gibson helped an elementary student make it home safely after school.
We love hearing stories like this that reflect the kind, respectful, and responsible students we have at OMS! If you see our students showing positive behavior, reach out to our office. We’d be proud to recognize them! 🙌

We're proud to recognize our students who set the bar high and received Positive Office Referrals during the month of March! 🌟
Positive Office Referrals are one of the many ways we recognize students to promote and maintain a positive culture of learning. Thank you to these Osky students for shining brightly and setting a great example! 🎉

Our Team 7/8 students went #ALLIN to celebrate their amazing science teacher, Mrs. Nannenga, as she gets ready to welcome her baby boy! 👶
From a heartfelt poster to creatively decorated diapers, the love and excitement were everywhere—keeping Mrs. Nannenga smiling all day! 💙

Parent-Teacher Conferences are coming up, and we look forward to connecting with families! Teachers will be available to meet with parents and guardians. In addition, special events will take place on both nights.

PLUS, we’ve officially reached 100 referrals for the 2024-25 school year! Keep up the great work! 💯👏

OMS students from Team 7 enjoyed sharing conversation with Officer Nord during Lunches with Logan! 🌟

Yesterday, our 6th-grade students dove into an exciting Science and Reading Carnival! They explored chemical and physical changes, made meaningful reading connections, and observed science in action. Hands-on learning brought both science and literature to life, making for an unforgettable day of discovery! 🚀📚
Thank you to 6th grade parents, Hy-Vee, and Mahaska Drug for their donations and also to our wonderful parent volunteers! None of this could have been possible without you! ❤️

Oskaloosa Middle School Fun Night will be Thursday, March 20, from 5:30-7:00pm!

Jolie Sisul moves up to tie for 6th place in the 6th Grade Girls PACER! Congratulations, Jolie! 🎉

Last week, our OMS Counseling Department brought some extra love (and maybe slobber) to Oskaloosa Middle School with a "Smooch the Pooch" stand. Who needs Cupid when you have a four-legged Valentine? 🐾❤️

Our 7th-grade students took their math skills to the next level by diving into percentages and real-life finances—all while building their dream gingerbread homes! 🏠
Students had to stick to a budget, factor in realtor commissions, apply markups for profit, and even account for taxes and closing costs—because buying (or selling) a home isn’t just gumdrops and frosting! 😆
To top it all off, Building 6-8 voted on their favorite house! Check out these sweet (literally!) masterpieces! 🎉

This morning’s sunrise over Oskaloosa Middle School was the perfect way to start Valentine’s Day! A beautiful reminder to spread kindness, gratitude, and love today and every day. ☀️❤️

Last week, Shawn Garrison from Details Executive Cleaning distributed 175 pocket Constitutions to the 8th grade class at OMS. He shared an important fact: while the average constitution lasts 17 years, ours has stood strong for over 250 years! 🇺🇸
With their own copies in hand, these students now have the opportunity to learn about their rights firsthand. Thank you to the Brothers from Mahaska Lodge 644—Jim Walker, Tom Jenkinson, Shawn Garrison, and Jay Wilson—for assisting with the distribution.
This opportunity helps enhance civic education at OMS, ensuring students gain a deeper understanding of their rights and the Constitution. 📜

University Games generously donated new games to our OMS Game Club! Each game challenges players to think critically, strategize, and collaborate. Thank you, University Games, for your support! 🎉
The OMS Game Club meets every Tuesday after school, where they play everything from Uno to My Hero Academia. New players are always welcome! 🃏

A group of 6th graders enjoyed pizza and great conversation with SRO Nord as part of Lunches with Logan! 👮♂️🍕

Here are our first Positive Office Referrals for 2025 at OMS. Congratulations, students! 🎉
Positive Office Referrals are one of the many ways we recognize students to promote and maintain a positive culture of learning. Keep up the great work, and keep setting a positive example! 🌟

A huge thank you to Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter for visiting our Team 8 students! This visit brought service learning to life—a key focus of Mr. Sterner’s W.I.N. group, especially in understanding how we serve the animal community.
Students learned about the shelter’s mission, the impact they have on our community, and the responsibilities of pet ownership. Plus, they got to meet Lucy, an adorable 1-year-old pup!
Who knows? This experience might have inspired some future veterinarians or animal shelter volunteers! 🐾❤️
