To help "Beat the Winter Blues" at OMS, we will be having dress-up days February 3-7! We hope our Osky students will join us in the fun and bring some excitement to the winter season.

Have you ever wondered what a day in the life of a 7th grader at OMS is like? Well, think no more! Team 7/8 has put into pictures what a typical day might consist of.
Here's a brief overview:
🔢 Math: Students are working on a real-world application project where they are asked to sell their own home. They are working on calculating the cost of supplies, listing the home for sale, and then hiring a realtor and paying the price of commission and closing costs.
📚 Reading: Students are reading the novel titled "The Outsiders," focusing to find Tier 2 vocabulary words in the text.
🌎 Social Studies: 7th graders are reflecting on the difference between savings and investing while looking back on their stock market simulation.
🔬 Science: Students are continuing to follow energy as it moves through the ecosystem. Most recently, they are taking notes about the process of photosynthesis.
✍️ Writing: 7th graders are making their own version of the game "Guess Who," using their creative writing skills and imaginations. They are also teaming up with hexagons and diagramming sentences to identify the parts of speech.

Our 6th-grade students put on a spooktacular performance for the residents at Oskaloosa Care Center! After the performance, our students created Halloween-themed Mad Lib stories with the residents.
This visit was a wonderful opportunity for our 6th grade students to connect with older members of the community. The residents enjoyed the company, and our students gained valuable insights from spending time with people who have so much life experience! 🎃✨

On Friday, October 25, our Oskaloosa 8th graders visited Indian Hills Community College to explore potential career paths! Each student had the opportunity to learn about three new career paths, engaging in hands-on activities with new materials and peers. It was a great day, and we are excited to see what the future holds for these Osky leaders!

Every year, OMS 8th graders work in lab groups to create a thermos that minimizes thermal energy. Smokey Row donates a gift card to the lab group whose thermos minimizes thermal energy transfer the best. This year’s winning 8th-grade students are pictured below with the Smokey Row staff. Thank you to Smokey Row for supporting our students!
A great deal of material planning and meticulous integration of what we learned about insulators and conductors went into the winning groups thermos this year. Congratulations to the team on their work!
