These drills play a vital role in equipping both students and staff with the necessary skills to respond calmly and effectively during emergencies, ensuring their preparedness in the event of potential threats or crises. The drill provided an opportunity for students and staff to practice their response strategies and receive valuable input from emergency personnel and law enforcement. A heartfelt appreciation goes out to the dedicated officers of the Mahaska County Sheriff's office and the Mahaska County Emergency Management Director, who joined us and actively participated in this exercise. Their professionalism and expertise were invaluable in helping us refine our safety protocols and procedures. “This is the third time we’ve done this drill, and each time, the students get better and better,” says Mahaska County Sheriff Russ VanRenterghen. “It’s obvious the new teachers have been trained very well.
