This weekend, the OMS Game Club took a field trip to Mayhem Comics in Clive to play UniVersus TCG. A big thanks to Mayhem Comics and UniVersus TCG for supporting the OMS Game Club throughout the years!

Earlier this week, OMS and Oskaloosa Schools hosted parent/teacher conferences. OMS held their conferences in a student-led model, where students presented evidence to their families covering work and engagement they gained over the course of the school year.
A book fair was held in conjunction with our conferences, giving students and their families an opportunity to purchase various books that students had an interest in. The OMS Cooking Club also provided dinner to staff on Thursday evening, giving our students a chance to demonstrate their cooking skills over the course of the school year.
Lastly, in order to create a very welcoming environment, a coffee truck was on site during conferences, giving families and staff the opportunity to have an enjoyable beverage as they listened to their children present. Thank you to everyone who helped make the week a success!

On Monday, Shawn Garrison with Details Executive Cleaning of Oskaloosa visited Mr. Sterner's first period history class to give each 8th grade student the ability to take home their own pocket constitution. Shawn talked about how the average constitution lasts for 17 years, but ours has been standing strong for over 240 years.
Shawn shared with the students, "It is important for you as young adults to know why we have this document. This is why you are able to go to school, hang out with friends, and go home and sleep in peace." Thank you, Shawn, for sharing about the document that governs our nation!

Last Thursday, the OMS Manufacturing and Chess Clubs had the privilege of having Matt Larson from Iowa Wood Products visit with them about jobs and how treated lumber is treated. All the students were engaged in asking many questions. Thank you, Matt and Iowa Wood Products, for this great learning opportunity!

On Friday, the OMS Battle of the Books team placed 4th in the Central Rivers BotB contest! The team consisted of Emma, Ezra, Parker, and Ruby.
The contest was the “Grand Battle” of the top 16 teams in the state, which was narrowed down from 72 teams via a Google Form quiz a few weeks ago. Also, the team participated in a Zoom presentation with author Huda Fahmy and received a signed copy of her graphic novel, which was one of the books used for the contest.
🎉 Help us congratulate these students on this accomplishment! And give a shout-out to Ruby, who read all 14 of the books on the list! 📚
Thank you to Osky staff and admin for supporting these students in this activity!

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month! OMS Student Council decorated the square with blue pinwheels last Friday with Mahaska Safe Kids to raise awareness. Join us in spreading awareness and advocating for the safety and well-being of children in our community!

🎉 Congratulations to our talented OMS band students, Landon H. on oboe and Charlie J. on percussion, for achieving the prestigious Golden Stand! 🏆 To earn this honor and sign their names to it, they flawlessly performed all twelve major scales one octave from memory in one sitting. What a display of dedication and musical talent! 🎶

The meeting provided Principal Scholes and Assistant Principal Gingerich with the opportunity to speak about the accomplishments of both students and thank the Optimist Club for their continued partnership with OMS. Both Ruth and Wesley were able to bring their families and speak about their passions and interests in school and the extracurricular activities they participate in. Congratulations, Ruth and Wesley!

In an effort to recognize World Down Syndrome Day, OMS participated in a Rock Your Socks Day today, providing students with the opportunity to wear a crazy pair of socks! Kudos to OMS 8th grade student Bailey Breuklander, who helped organize the day's event.
