
The OHS Girls Track team joined OMS for Lunch League last week! The high school athletes were able to share their experiences and offer guidance to the younger students, fostering a sense of community and mentorship. The Lunch League also provided an opportunity for the OMS students to learn more about track and each athlete. We hope our OMS students enjoyed connecting with these high schoolers!


Last week, Colt broke the all-time PACER record for 6th grade! He ran 121 laps, which broke the previous record of 119 held by AJ Walker from the 2019-20 school year. Congratulations Colt!


OMS 6th graders joined Officer Nord last week for "Lunches with Logan." 🙌 These students were nominated by their teachers for this special experience! Officer Nord takes time out of his schedule to meet with students that have been doing outstanding work in the classroom to get to know the students and their interests both in and out of the classroom. ❤️


Congratulations to Jacob Mitrisin for running a PACER of 123 laps! This ties him for 12th on the All-Time PACER leaderboard for 8th grade.


🎪🔬 Yesterday, OMS 6th graders participated in a Chemistry Carnival as they explored the world of chemistry through a fun-filled experience! From cotton candy to popcorn to hot dogs, students indulged in typical carnival foods while unraveling the mystery behind chemical and physical changes. It was a fund day of hands-on learning!










Last Thursday, OMS hosted a Career Fair event for its students in order to generate interest and excitement around various career possibilities. Over 35 different organizations and agencies were present at the Career Fair, providing our students with a multitude of careers to explore and learn more about. A special thank you to OMS counselor Laura Brummel for all of her leadership and organization in planning this event for our students. Also, a special thank you to all of our local businesses and organizations for taking time out of their busy schedules to spend time with our students and invest in their futures.
Before Career Day, OMS kicked off the day with a motivating guest speaker, Desi Payne, on resiliency at the George Daily Auditorium. The assembly was interactive and engaging for the students. Students also wrote thank you emails to our generous professionals who volunteered their time!











Last night, members of the seventh and eighth grade middle school choir, under the direction of Choir Director Christopher Ellerston, performed a magnificent show at the George Daily Auditorium in front of a crowded audience. Their act was followed by performances by the high school concert and chamber choirs. The middle school choir has worked very hard for last night’s show, improving their craft with every passing day, leading up to last night’s show!

OMS will be hosting a Career Fair this week on Thursday, February 22! Students will have an assembly about resilience and meet various professionals to learn about their career paths! All 7th and 8th grade students will have the opportunity to listen to a professional present on their career.


The OHS Girls and Boys Track Teams will be hosting a FREE Track & Field Camp for OMS students and athletes in 7th and 8th grade!

📍 Old Community Stadium or Middle School (depends on weather conditions)
The goals for the camp are to make connections, teach techniques, and give OMS coaches and athletes a step ahead of the competition. We need your help to make this a fun and engaging camp.

🏀 OMS students were joined by the William Penn Basketball team for lunch this week, and it was a slam dunk of an experience! Big thanks to the players and coaching staff for taking the time to connect with our students. It's moments like these that highlight the sense of community and camaraderie at Oskaloosa. The OMS Peer Physical Education Class went #ALLIN and took part in the Heart Day of Caring at William Penn on Wednesday, February 14th. Students had the opportunity to participate in various sports activities. It was a great day to be awesome! #OskyBuildsLeaders

Yesterday, the OMS sixth grade class attended an Iowa Wolves basketball game at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Students enjoyed socializing with each other, learning more about the game of basketball, and spending quality time with their teachers outside of the classroom, fostering continued positive relationships with each other.









Last week, Osky students competed in a MathCounts competition at William Penn. The seven Osky students that participated were Iwan Buchanan, Landon Herd, Jackson Lahner, Ava McDonald, Marshall Overturf, Dylan Pierson, and Ian Rosvold. Ian, Dylan, and Landon all placed in the top ten. Dylan placed third overall, and Ian placed second. Those two will continue on to the state competition! Dylan Pierson, Ian Rosvold, Landon Herd, and Marshall Overturf placed second in the team competition. Please help us congratulate these students on a job well done!




Congrats to Colt on accomplishing 118 Pacer Laps! This moves him up to 2nd place all-time for 6th grade. Way to go!


Last week, the OMS 8th grade science class had a guest speak to the students about environmental biology. Milton Hubbord, a retired environmental biologist, worked in various locations, such as Alaska and Yellowstone, during his career in this field. He spoke to the students about what his job encompassed, the available salaries for this kind of job, and the schooling it takes to get such a job. Milton also brought in various artifacts from his career that he acquired in the field to show the students. Thank you, Milton, for sharing your story with our students!




Last week, the OHS boys wrestling team joined the 8th graders for Lunch League, fueling up for success on and off the mat! 💪


Beat those winter blues, OMS style! Get ready for a week of festive attire with our dress-up days starting Monday, January 29th. And, guess what? Thicker hot chocolate with extra marshmallows is coming your way on Wednesday, January 31st, during lunch, for $1!

This past Saturday, 6 OMS band students were selected through an audition process from 700 other southeast Iowa band students to participate in the Southeast Iowa Bandmasters Association Honor Band. Students rehearsed and performed their final concert at the University of Iowa Voxman Music Building. Help us congratulate these outstanding musicians!
